Join the Wetlands Initiative, Audubon Great Lakes, and the Chicago Park District for an evening of "mothing" at Indian Ridge Marsh, a unique habitat restoration on Chicago's Southeast Side.
Moth enthusiast and restoration specialist Trevor Edmonson will be our master of mothing ceremonies, bringing along his simple setup: a lamp with a special mercury vapor light bulb that, when placed behind a sheet, creates a moonlike beacon irresistible to light-seeking insects.
As we wait for the sun to set and mothing to begin, we'll collect native seed at the marsh for the restoration project.
We recommend wearing long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bringing water, a flashlight, and a camera if you want to document your finds.
