The Wetlands Initiative is working to develop a Nutrient Farming Pilot Project to test and demonstrate the economic efficiency and environmental benefits of nutrient farming.
A pilot project would be host to a major integrated research agenda, focusing on the following topics: the biogeochemical processes in the wetlands needed to process nitrogen and phosphorus, the economic benefits to the watershed, the policy and governance needed to sustain new markets, and the appropriate trading structures and mechanisms necessary to support water quality trading.
A site has not been confirmed for this project.
