2010 Corporate Volunteer Day For 60 years Midewin was a U.S. Army Arsenal. Today it is the largest restoration project in Illinois. The 2010 Corporate Volunteer Day will provide an opportunity for Midewin’s corporate partners to send teams of employees to help restore native habitat. Teams of volunteers will help staff from the Wetlands Initiative and the U.S. Forest Service plant seeds and plugs of native wetland and prairie species. All Volunteers Will Receive
Driving Directions Meet at the U.S. Forest Service's Visitor Center at 9a.m. From I55: Look for exit 241, Wilmington. At the top of the ramp (both northbound and southbound), turn left or east. Travel 3.5 miles on River Road to the intersection with State Route 53. Turn left or north. Follow Route 53 for 1.0 mile to the Midewin's Visitor Center, on the right or east side of the highway. From I80: Look for exit 132, State Route 53 and Chicago Street. At the end of the ramp (both eastbound and westbound), turn right or south. Travel south on State Route 53, also known as Historic Route 66, for approximately 15 miles -- past the race tracks, the town of Elwood, and Prairie Creek grain company. The Visitor Center will be on the left or east side of the highway.
